Medical Tourism History continues through the ages...

The 1900s to 2000s Period was the industrialized era in which Europe and USA were at the center of world in commerce, industries and healthcare. Medical tourism was limited to the few people that could afford it. As a result policies and regulations were formed. The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) was established in 1933. ABMS outline the regulations to follow on medical specialties in the United States and around the world. Twenty five years later in 1958 the European Union of Medical Specialties (UEMS) was created.
The 60s was an era of changes. It was full of protest. An era that people wanted to be free of any preconceived idea. This time opened the door for the New Age movement and this in consequence brought back healing methods that support the connection of spirit and body. Yoga and Ayurvedic medicine were once used on the Ancient Times period, people brought it back in the 60s and it still in use today. If one thought that people would not travel to a communist country to receive medical services one was wrong.

In the 80s and 90s Cuba had top of the line services on eye surgeries, heart and cosmetic catered specially for the international traveler. An increase of health care providers around the world caused that in 1997 the Joint Commission International was formed.
This organization is in charge of revising that all International health care facilities and providers around the world are following the standards necessary for medical practice.
