Medical Tourism in our era

In 2,006 Medical tourism destinations like Latin America, India, Singapore and Thailand passed the standards of the JCI and get their accreditation as legitimate health care providers. According to Health-tourism.com: “Medical tourism continued its massive growth with as many as 150,000 US citizens travelling to destinations in Asia and Latin America in 2006” “The number of American medical tourists swelled to 300,000 in 2007, the largest ever in medical tourism history” The expectation is that the amount of medical travelers surpass a million by 2010. As the United States health care cost continues to increase the health care consumers are using resources that they did not have before; like technology. This and other resources make it easier to shop around and consider other health care options. Health care could be purchase for half of the cost that one would pay it in United States.
Ironically what motivated people to go get medical treatments overseas is what caused United States health care problems in the first place: Cost Savings.
There are three types of medical tourism that you can find overseas. One type offers medical procedures to help with life-threatened conditions such as cardiac deficiencies, , cancer or bone marrow transplants; second type offers medical procedures to enhance the traveler quality of life for example hip resurfacing, lasik surgery, joint replacement, assisted reproduction, and alternative medicine; and the third type is elective medical procedures such as cosmetic surgeries, orthodontic care, sex changes and weight loss surgeries.
